Electrical fire at Nick & Sam’s Steakhouse forces restaurant to close on busy Saturday night, but plans to reopen Sunday

A short circuit in the main breaker box at Nick and Sam’s Steakhouse gave the Uptown restaurant an unwelcome holiday jolt after the restaurant closed last night, causing a small electrical fire near the back dock but interrupting dinner plans for hundreds tonight. No one was injured.

Chef/partner Samir Dhurandhar tells the Hatch that electricians and Oncor are working to repair the 40-year-old system, but the restaurant would not be ready for dinner service tonight.

The service interruption couldn’t have come at a worse time, given that Nick & Sam’s — like most high-end restaurants in town –is fully booked with holiday parties this time of year.  Staff at the restaurant attemepted to contact those with reservations to notify them of the closure.

“I can’t apologize enough to all of our guests that I couldn’t accommodate them tonight,” Dhurandhar said, adding that the steakhouse expects to be open for regular dinner service on Sunday.
