New location falls through, so after 33 years in downtown Dallas, The Palm steakhouse calls it quits


<img class=”alignnone size-large wp-image-19132″ src=”http://escapehatchdallas.com/wp-content/uploads/the-palm-dallas-2-600×900.jpg” alt=”” width=”600″ height=”900″/>At one time, The Palm steakhouse in downtown Dallas drew every notable and celebrity who came through town. That all comes to an abrupt end later this month when the West End restaurant closes its doors after 33 years.

Though the Palm Dallas had plenty of fans, the steakhouse became a victim of a dated interior decor, troubled location, and last month’s collapse of final negotiations to relocate the Palm to a prime downtown space.

“I know our guests will be disappointed, and so am I,” the Palm’s executive chef, Terry Cook, told the Hatch when we called to confirm the closure.  “The West End location proved too big an obstacle to overcome. If the new space close to Klyde Warren Park hadn’t fallen through earlier this month, we’d have probably been okay.”

Palm owners Wally Ganzi and Bruce Bozzi write in an email to be sent to loyal customers later today that the restaurant will close on June 30. “(W)e’ve come to the decision that it is no longer viable for us to operate a restaurant at this location,” says the email. “This is a decision that was very difficult for us. Recent events, however, have left us concerned for the safety and welfare of our valued customers and staff.”

Ganzi and Bozzi also mention in the email that they are searching for another location to open a Palm “in the great city of Dallas,” and conclude, “Thank you Dallas, and we hope to see you again.”

Employees have all been offered opportunities to transfer to other Palm locations.

On the plus side, Cook says the Palm will debut dry-aged prime steaks at all of their locations tonight, including Dallas, so there’s that.
