“Left Bank,” A New Oak Cliff Restaurant from Veritas, Restaurant AVA Partners

“It’s going to be called Left Bank,” Brooks Anderson told EscapeHatch. Anderson and his brother, Bradley, plus chefs Nathan Tate and Randall Copeland, are partners in the new restaurant concept, which will soon be under construction in the Bishop Arts District of Oak Cliff. Anderson says Left Bank will be open by late Spring.”
The Andersons own Veritas, a wine retailer known for its varied, eclectic selection and for hosting occasional wine dinners cooked by notable Dallas chefs. Tate and Copeland run Restaurant AVA, a highly regarded restaurant in Rockwall.
“Left Bank will be an American bistro with French accents, a comfortable, everyday kind of space. The menu will focus on simple, rustic cooking, local ingredients, a lot of it cooked over a wood grill we’re installing. These will be dishes that pair well with wines.”
The name pays homage to Paris’ Rive Gauche, suggesting there’s a intellectual and artisitic parallel between the Left (South) Bank of the Siene River and the south side of the Trinity. Hmmm, ok…

Anderson says Left Bank’s wine list will feature 75-100 labels (versus 400 at Veritas). “Left Bank will focus on West Coast American wines and those from small French producers,” with a retail price target of $30-$75. “But if you want a bottle of Champagne or a premier cru white Burgandy, we’ll have that, too.”
The four owners plan to divide their time between their existing venues and Left Bank, which was once Café Madrid then later Decanter.
“We’re completely gutting it and starting over,” Anderson said. “We’re excited to be in the neighborhood—we’ve all wanted to do something there for a long time.
