The Union Bear, New Craft Brewery in West Village, Opens Thursday

The Union Bear, a new craft brewery in West Village, will open Thursday afternoon, February 2. The owner is Matt Spillers, who also owns Bishop Arts faves Eno’s Pizza Tavern and Oddfellows.

If you like interesting draught beers, home brews, and an edgy decor (the two-story space is a looker), this may be your new go-to place.  Jeff Fryman, formerly of the Common Table, is the cicerone/beer somm.

Here’s the opening beer menu:

The food isn’t an afterthought, either. The menu, created by John Kleifgen, looks like a good match for beer, full of interesting salads, sandwiches and pizzas (put me down for the porchetta sandwich and the habanero-asian pear salad). You can check out the full menu here:

Last October, Spillers told Teresa Gubbins at Pegasus News: “”It’ll be a place to do fun little experimental beers inside our own four walls. We’ll be making some, but we’ll also invite other brewers to come and do an experimental beer. Or home brewers, if they have a cool beer they’ve made and they’d like to see what other people think of it.”
