the Grand Award has honored the industry’s top wine lists. Award winners typically offer an expertly curated collection of 1,500 or more selections from top producers, appellations and vintages. Each winner has passed a thorough onsite inspection, which evaluated the restaurant’s wine program, storage, service, cuisine and ambiance.
Only 68 other restaurants hold the Grand Award, including Pappas Bros. Steakhouse’s sister location, in Houston, which was awarded the Grand Award in 2010. They are the only two siblings to both earn Wine Specator’s highest award.
This year, a total of 3,734 restaurants earned one of three levels of wine list awards from the magazine. The Grand Award is the most prestigious level. Four other restaurants earned the Grand Award this year, including NYC’S Eleven Madison Park and Gilt, the Pluckemin Inn in N.J., and Restaurante Rekondo in San Sebastian, Spain.
Of course, this comes as no surprise to Dallas diners. Pappas Bros. Steakhouse has for years been the top rated steakhouse–and one of the best restaurants–in nearly every respected print and online publication, including Texas Monthly (which called PBSH the best steakhouse in all of Texas), D Magazine, Modern Luxury Magazine, Fearless Critic, and, of course, EscapeHatchDallas.com, where Pappas Bros. certified sommeliers contribute as wine and spirits writers.
Pappas Bros. is the only restaurant in Dallas to employ a Master Sommelier (Barb Werley), an Advanced Level Sommelier (Jason Hisaw, who sits for his Master Somm exam next week) and two certified sommeliers (Heather Green, Jason Huerta) as full-time wine professionals, helping diners select wines from a list that catalogs the 33,000-bottle PBSH cellar.
