“Beef Loving Texans’ Best Butcher in Texas” competition in DFW this weekend to award titles, $2500 prizes
What are you eating for dinner this weekend?
I hope it’s beef, since five of the best butchers in Texas will be carving and cleavering their way to the title of “Best Butcher in Texas” on Saturday, March 18 at El Centro College in Dallas.
The Texas Beef Council sponsors the annual “Beef Loving Texans’ Best Butcher in Texas” competition, which celebrates an art form that has been important to Texas’ cultural heritage. The contest pits butchers from across Texas against each other for the chance to win the title, $2500 and a seat on the Council.
This weekend is the Dallas Regional semifinal round, a three-part challenge that tests competitors on cutting skills and cut identification. I’ll be one of the judges.
Three winners from the DFW regional competition will move on to the finals, plus each will snag $2,500 and a seat on the Beef Loving Texans’ Best Butcher Council. The final competition for the supreme title and a $5000 prize takes place during the Austin Food + Wine Festival on April 29.
